Guadalajara, Mexico - The countries in North and South America have converged on Guadalajara, Mexico to compete in the 2011 Pan American Games. The Sunfish is one of nine sailing events that will contested on the waters off of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The other classes are the Laser Standard, Laser Radial, Snipe, Lightning, Hobie 16 and J24.
In route to capturing the gold, the 2011 Sunfish World Champion, Matheus Dellagnello of Brazil, dominated the regatta and won 8 of the 10 races. Dellagnello stood on the podium with 2008 Sunfish World Champion Paul Foerster of the United States in second place and Francisco Renna of Argentina in third.

Lake of Bracciano (Rome), Italy - From September 7-11, the 2011 European Championship was contested on the waters of Lake Bracciano. Matteus Dellagnello of Brazil continued his winning ways and captured the title in a dominating fashion. Andrea Milla (2nd), Umberto Valle and Luca Frascari (4th) had a hard fought battle to fill out the top three and finished the regatta separated by a point.
Lake Bluff, IllinoisL - The 2011 US Masters Championship was hosted by Lake Bluff Yacht Club on Sept 10th and 11th. The weather was perfect for sailing with 4 to 10 knots on flat waters on Lake Michigan. Six good races were run before the wind died completely on Sunday. 25 sailors came from 7 states including Susan Tillman Berg from Seattle. Rich Chapman was the overall winner and Todd Edwards was second but since the Masters is all about age we concentrated on the age brackets. Chapman was the first Apprentice Master followed by Dan Norton and Scott Schappe. One, two and three in the Masters were Todd Edwards, Holly Hanselman, and Tom Katterheinrich. The Grand Masters line up was Leland Brode, Fritz Hanselman and Ron McHenry. Dick and Linda Tillman, the first two Great Grandmasters, were also third and fourth all around. Larry Hammond and Jack Sheppard rounded out the "Great" section.
Thanks to Doug Warren for a great job organizing the event. Doug, Holly Hanselman, and Rich Chapman will be organizing next years 50th North Americans. They will be held in Waukegan, IL the first week of August 2012.
Barrington, Rhode Island - Chilean Andres Ducasse sailed a steadily consistent regatta en route to victory at this year's Sunfish North American Championship. 2nd place finisher Ivan Eduardo Aponte-Taboas from Puerto Rico trailed by just 1 point at the end of the series. However, Ivan did win the Youth North American Championship just 3 days earlier. Former North American Champions Bill Brangiforte and Doug Kaukeinen finished in 3rd and 4th place respectively followed by 3-time World Champion Malcom Smith of Bermuda in 5th place. 99 boats competed at this year's regatta and all sailors were treated to a factory tour at LaserPerformance on Friday evening. Curacao - In the waters of Curaçao, in front of the Lions Dive Hotel, the last races of the World Championship where sailed today. The ending of this Championship was incredibly exciting, where the Brazilian top sailor Matheus Dellagnelo could crown himself the new World Champion, after winning both morning races. Fort Walton, FL - Seventeen year old Fernando Monllor sailed a consistent series in route to a convincing win at the 2011 Midwinter Championship. The young Puerto Rican was one of 6 juniors in the top 10 overall. Conner Blouin (USA) finished second overall, followed by David Hernandez (GUA).
The regatta was a deep International compeitition, with seven countries making up the top 10 overall. By virtue of their performances in this regatta Puerto Rico, Guatemala and Colombia qualified for the 2011 Pan American Games.
Fort Walton, FL - Former world championship Malcolm Smith has not lost his edge with age. The Bermudan dominated the International Masters Championship from start to finish by winning 7 or the 9 races in the series. US Gulf Coast sailors Tom Whitehurst and Todd Edwards rounded out the top 3.
