| ANNUAL LABOR DAY REGATTA 2003 AT SARASOTA SAILING SQUADRON | |||||||||
| Twenty one Sunfish sailors participated in the Annual Labor Day regatta at Sarasota Sailing Squadron. Winds ranged from 12-18mph throughout the weekend. The unexpected abundance of wind facilitated completing seven races (one of which was a drop-out). Paul Strauley, who took the summer off from sailing, came back with a fresh perspective and dominated the weekend, winning 6 of the 7 races. Paul's comment to the win----" I am taking every summer off." Tony Elliot, who took the bullet the first race, was second overall. Dave Kaighin and Gail Heausler followed in third and fourth, respectively. | |||||||||
| In the Junior category, Conner Blouin was top junior finishing seventh overall followed closely by Michael Mierswa finishing eight overall. | |||||||||
| Several new sailors to the fleet joined us for our seasoning opening, namely; Cathy Strammer, Sebastian Baron, Tommy Timberlack, Sharon Del Bianco, and John Currie. We hope to see them out on the course with us in the future. | |||||||||
| And finally, if there was an award for "most improved" my vote(s) go to John Kremski and Michael Mierswa. Watch out Sunfish sailors----these two are moving on up! | |||||||||
| A lot of fun was had by all. This was a well run and organized regatta by the SSS. Kudos to Sallie O'Malley et al (maybe she will start sailing with the Sunfish fleet also) for a great job. Definitely worth checking out next year. Other than one day (weekend) events being held in Melbourne and Ft. Myers, next up is the Florida States at Ft Myers (Oct 18-19) followed by the Annual Fall regatta at Melbourne Yacht Club (Oct 25-26). | |||||||||
