Jabbo Gordon Invitational Regatta, Saturday March 20, 2004
Well I can tell you it was very challenging. It was
blowing hard. It
was very shifty and gusty. Enough to knock you down if you weren't on your
toes. One minute you'd be hiking for all your worth and then a fast
heavy shift and you were scrambling to get in the boat because the sail was
already on the same side as you.
Many people capsized numerous times, me included. At
one point I was finally doing good and my hiking strap broke. I didn't
know it at the time but I was hiking hard and then I was in the water,
swallowing a bunch. So I climbed in one more time and notice why I had
ended up in the drink that time.
They had their best turnout so far for this event. They ran two different
courses one for FWSA ladies who only wanted to race half day. Wish I had joined
them. Was I crazy. But I wanted as much practice as possible for the
upcoming Rainbow Regatta. I haven't sailed in a couple of months.
They also had some walker bays on that course.
Both groups (Adults and Juniors) competed in the Portsmouth class. The adults
were scored separately, and the juniors were tallied on corrected time in
competition with Laser Radials and 420's.
