The Unknown Master back to report on the two races we had today. I can’t provide too much detail on what happened at the front of the pack, as I was better positioned today to report on what happened at the back of the pack.
The first race started at 10 AM after one or two general recalls, and generally featured lighter wind and the need to induce some heel to get thru the chop. Tom Whitehurst won, with Rita Steele hanging touch, being as high as second, but ultimately finishing the race 5th.
As became the custom at this regatta, the wind really died at the end of the first race, and we waited about an hour for enough breeze to get going again.
The left end of the line turned out to be quite favored, and the leaders tacked to port and went right quicker than a ‘58 Chrysler 300 with the Hemi option. Tom Whitehurst won again. In case you were wondering, all courses were Windward Leeward twice around, with a short reach to the finish just after the 2nd downwind leg.
The race committee used something called “scoring software” and quickly produced the results. Donnie Martinborough, by virtue of his 4th and 8th place finishes today, won with 13 points after the throwout. Young Tom Whitehurst and Anne Edwards finished tied with 18, and young Tom won the tiebreaker. Donnie also won first Apprentice Master, Young Tom was first Master, Joe Blouin, who apparently is taking some sort of anti-aging potion won first Grand Master, and Dick Tillman won first Great Grand Master.
So that’s it from Tampa! See you next year and thanks to Gail Heausler for organizing this chance for the geezers to gather! The Unknown Master
