It is desired that this championship be conducted annually. Individuals desiring information regarding hosting the South American and Caribbean Championship should contact the President or Vice President.
Any sailor who is a current member of ISCA may compete in the South American and Caribbean Championship.
Lucas Gonzalez Smith Wins South American Championship

Tominé, Colombia - Club Nautico Muña and Club Nautico el Portillo hosted 23 competitors from 7 countries in the 2009 Sunfish South American Championshin from January 14-17, 2010. The 2005 Sunfish World Champion, Lucas Gonzalez Smith of Argentina, captured the title. In doing so, he has qualified Argentina for the 2011 Pan American Games.
2009 South American Championship
December 1st, 2009Tominé, Colombia - Club Nautico Muña and Club Nautico el Portillo will host the 2009 Sunfish South American Championship on January 14-17, 2010. This event will qualify the top finishing eligible nation to compete at the 2011 Pan American Games.
Andrey Quintero Captures South American Title
October 31st, 2008Andrey Quintero of Colombia won his first Sunfish South American title. In route to the victory, Quintero topped 24 competitors from 6 countries. Over the 9 race series Quintero won 6 races. The races were often contested in extreme conditions with winds averaging 20 to 25 knots and waves an average of 2 meters.
Bermuda’s multiple World Champion Malcolm Smith was second. Local favorite Gabriel Moran finished third. The top 5 was rounded out by 2008 Sunfish World Championship runner up Marx Chirinos of Venezuela, and Willo Cappeletti of Peru.

October 29th, 2008After completing six races, Andrey Quintero of Colombia leads Bermudian Malcolm Smith by 5 points. Local favorite Gabriel Moran is 1 point behind Smith.
Thursday is a lay day. The regatta will conclude on Friday.
2008 South American Championship - Day 3
October 28th, 2008The first official racing day started with a very nice shining sun after 3 cloudy days. We had a perfect 15-18 knots of wind coming from 260 degrees and 3-4 feet waves for the whole day. The competion was very close among the top four: Andrey Quinteros (COL), Marx Chirinos (VEN), Gabriel Morán (ECU) and Malcolm Smith (BER) who were approxiamately 100 meters ahead of the rest of the fleet in all three races today. There is a high possibility that one of them will be the Champion.
2008 South American Championship - Day 2
October 27th, 2008The day started with the Skippers Meeting at 12:00 hrs, where the Race Committee explained important details of the Sailing Instructions and replied questions from the competitors.
The practice race started at 15:15 hrs under winds of 16 knotts. The course was a trapezoid and there was a very tight competition among Gabriel Moran (ECU), Malcolm Smith (BER) and Marx Chirinos (VEN).
Tomorrow (Tuesday), official races will take place starting at 13:30 hours.
2008 South American Championship - Day 1
October 26th, 200824 Competitors from 6 countries (Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Bermuda, Dominican Republic and Ecuador) have arrived to Manta in preparation for the event. Today the participants completed registration and the boats were assigned. At 14:00 hours they had the opportunity of testing the sailing area, with 13-16 knots of wind and a couple of whales playing around.
The opening ceremony took place at 20:30 hours with the presence of the local authorities. Manta has great sailing conditions and all competitors are exited with the excellent organization prepared by the host.
Racing starts on Tuesday.

Gabriel Moran (Ecuador) competed at this years Sunfish World Championships (his first Sunfish Worlds). As part of his training for the Worlds, Gabriel competed at the NY Upstate and NY Downstate Regionals. Gabriel was joined by his Father, Dr. Alex Moran and friend Renato Teran at the World Championships as well.
