The 2010 Western Regional Championship Regatta was hosted by the Gold Country Yacht Club at the Scotts Flat Lake In Nevada City, California on June 5th and 6th, with three races during the first day and two races on the second day of sailing. The wind was very shifty on Saturday, but improved and became more steady on Sunday once the sun came out. We enjoyed a nice dinner the first evening and closed the event with the awards ceremony on Sunday. I would like to thank Bob Cronin, Roy Jordan, David Candey, Mark Sabin, and Stan Jones from the USSCA West Region and Lorenzo Rojas from Colombia for coming to the event. I have enjoyed sailing with all of you and hope to see you again soon!

It’s official. Our 2010 racing season started with the May 15th races. We had a good showing of 12 boats and a nice support group on the shore. During lunch we welcomed our newest member Gary and talked about sailing with current and prospective members. The conditions were perfect with sunny skies and good winds. The 2010 West Region sailing season has officially kicked off with the Frostbite Regatta in Mission Bay, San Diego. Although the weather did not look promising on the morning of the regatta, the clouds eventually gave way to the sun. We had a good showing of nine boats despite strong winds and scattered showers. The spirits were high and the races close. The three top spots were taken by Les Piehl, Mike Waters, and Rick Ten Eyck of the Mission Bay Sunfish Fleet No. 632. All in all, it was a great day of sailing, and the chocolate-chip cookies baked by Anne made it even better. A big thank you goes to Anne Hinton who organized this event!
