Race results for GSC Fall #2

Sixteen adults arrived at Sailor's Point Saturday the 27th to find that the
Youth Learn to Sail students had gotten there first. The kids were fun to
watch - scurrying along the shore, blowing their whistles at every
opportunity, excited by the prospect of sailing. Stewart Barcalow was able
to get all the Optis launched before the adults had their skippers' meeting.
The Opti sailors, once afloat, reminded me of minnows swimming happily
before the arrival of the big fish.

One of the 16 adults was John Kremski, who traveled from Fort Myers to race
with us. The more often GSC sailors participate in regattas at other clubs,
the more often others travel to join us. These visitors help raise the
quality of competition at home.

What about the sailing conditions?, you might ask. Making weather
interesting reading for you gets harder all of the time. This past Saturday
began with a very mild breeze from the west. Many of us were sitting on the
low side to fill our sails. There were expanses of dead air. Not my favorite
sailing condition. But the wind picked up. Then shifted 180 degrees. And
increased in strength. Three of us returned to shore after the sixth race,
while others sailed one more race for fun. Judging from the excitement when
they returned to shore, they had plenty of it. Apparently the last race of
the day was sailed NASCAR style, with Danny hitting and flipping over Andy's
boat. Had I seen it myself I would give you an instant-replay-slow-motion
description. Oh, and the weather? The rain kindly held out until everyone
was safely on shore. Overall, it was another great day at Sailor's Point.
