Lake Eustis Sailing Club Annual George Washington's Birthday Regatta: Feb 21-22, 2004
Unlike the frigid, stormy weather experienced during last years regatta, we enjoyed a couple of beautiful spring-like days (70 degrees and plenty of sunshine).  Nine Sunfish sailors competed in the Lake Eustis Annual regatta this year.  On Saturday the winds ranged from 10-18mph.  There was one run-away boat (the boat eventually made it back to the sailor), a few overturned boats as well as, several moments of uncoordination by each of us.
We were able to fit in 4 races, with Joe Blouin taking the bullet for each one.  The Strauleys battled it out, swapping 2nd and 3rd place for most of the races on Saturday, with John Kremski sneaking in a 3rd place the last race on Saturday.
By Sunday the winds had lightened up to about 5-8mph. Joe Blouin was a "no-show on Sunday", leaving the regatta win up for grabs.  Mindy Strauley took the bullet both races on Sunday, with John Kremski second in the first race and Paul Strauley a close second in the last race.
Each year Lake Eustis Sailing Club hosts this regatta.  They did an excellent job with organizing the regatta as well as, with race management.  We encourage any Sunfish sailors that will be in the area next year during this time--to attend this event.
