Ft Meyers Series, June 20, 2004

Submitted by John Kremski

With the wind around twelve knots from the southwest, and an strong incoming tide,  eleven racers competed on the June 20 Sunfish races, held downtown Fort Myers at the Edison Sailing Center.  Most of the group paid attention to Race Committee Steve Olive's pre-race explanation of the effects of the tide on the course, and the use and location of the sandbar near the starting line to best advantage.  With the deep water on the left side of the course, the right side upwind was favored, which a few people had to test out by going left.  Oh Well!

Congratulations to our top three:  Michael Mierswa, Jr, Jack Scragg and Pat Hamilton on their great sailing!  Bob McElwain kept it really interesting by sailing the last two races "double-handed" with April as crew.  He says it is really not a recommended technique, nowhere near as much deck space as that big Farr he is used to sailing on!!

Our next race will be July 25, noon skipper meeting and 1:00 pm start.  Hope to see you all on the water!!
