Racers turned out for a challenging day of sailing. Rigging on
shore, most were disappointed that the weatherman's forecast for 15 knots
appeared to be a no-show. The first two races were drifters, 180-degree
wind shifts common. In race two, the first two boats to the leeward mark
were beating to get there, while those trailing the fleet at the start of the
downwind leg were on a dead run - and this was in a race that was only 14 minutes
long!!
Race
three saw the winds pick up to well beyond what NOAA had promised - it probably
averaged out over all five races to 15 knots, but the last two races were in
survival mode, with strong winds making it difficult to sail. Only seven
boats hung in there for the last race!
Congrats
to John Kremski first, Fred Hutchinson second, and Jack Scragg third, with Phil
MeWhinney edging out Jim Somers for fourth; and Allie Grey toasting her father
Kurt for sixth!! Better get out and practice, Kurt!!
