July 2012 News Articles

Bill Brangiforte and Kevin Buruchian battled it out all weekend, but in the end Brangiforte took the top spot in the Sunfish Class at the 2012 Newport Regatta. Eric Woodman was 3rd with the hard-charging Amanda Callahan fourth. Saturday featured a stiff sea breeze that allowed for 8 races to be completed. Sunday saw a lighter SWerly, and 4 races were completed. A total of 10 skippers competed.

This year the Windycrest Sailing Club, located on Lake Keystone west of Sand Springs and Tulsa, OK will be hosting the championship. WSC has a great reputation for hosting North American, National and ladder events. Also the club has won the St. Petersburg Cup for regatta management.

Roger Williams Sailing Coach Amanda Callahan, back in a Sunfish for the first time this year, shook off some rust to win the final three races at the Northeast Challenge, but it wasn’t enough to beat the consistent Bill Brangiforte. With no throwout in 5 races, Brangiforte finished with 9 points to Callahan’s 10.
