The regatta was sailed on Aug 26 in 5-6 knot shifty, easterly breezes, with veteran sunfish sailor Gerhart Menzel dominating. Gerhart won all five races sailed. Jim Shanley placed 2nd, and Terry Ryan 3rd. A good time was had by all!

Ten sailors competed in the 2012 Spofford Yacht Club Sunfish Regatta on Aug 18 and when the dust settled Korey Charles took the top spot. Korey won the first three races. Anne Mullett challenged him with consistent finishes and a win in the fifth race, but Korey won the sixth race and finished first overall. Final results were Korey Charles first place, Paul Henkel second and Anne Mullett third.

On Monday afternoon, July 30th, youth sailors from around the US began arriving at the beach in Waukegan, IL to set up their boats and prepare for the upcoming Youth NA’s. Throughout the afternoon old friendships were reestablished and new ones were formed as the sailors got to know each other.

Why do the kids always get the good wind?? That was the question of the day on Tuesday, July 30 as the youth sailors took to the water in 15 knots of breeze and the adults, who were preparing for the open NA’s, were unloading their boats. It seems that, for the last 3 NA’s the youth regatta has been sailed in great winds while the open regatta got the fickle winds. This year proved to be different!

Back from the North Americans, Eric Woodman Bill Brangiforte and Amanda Callahan the top three spots at the annual Saunderstown Yacht Club Super Sunfish Sunday regatta on Aug 12. Woodman ended up with a net of just 5 points after 5 races (one throw out), followed by Brangiforte with 8 points and Callahan with 9. Races were sailed in a shifty Southwesterly breeze that ranged between 10 and 15 mph.

After four of the nine scheduled events the race for the top spot in the 2012 New England Sunfish Championship is wide open.

Drew Buttner dominated when the wind came up on Sunday with three bullets to take the 2012 Wequaquet Lake Yacht Club New England Sunfish Regional on July 28-28. Winning for the 8th time (I think), Buttner got off to a slow start on Saturday morning but settled down to pull away and win the Championship by three points.
