21 competitors assembled at the Orleans Yacht Club for the final weekend of the 2012 New England Sunfish summer racing season. We enjoyed great weather, a strong fleet (which included 3 Buttners for the first time in a long time), and some very competitive racing.

Twenty five sailors, after waiting for the sea breeze on both days, completed nine of eleven races scheduled. Greg Gust (Rush Creek) whistled (according to the PRO) his way to victory with six bullets. Tom Whitehurst (Pensacola Beach) and Hank Saurage (Pelican) finished seven and twelve points behind, respectively.

2012 Women's Sunfish North American Championship, September 14-16, concluded with a first time champion of Marguerite Koelher from South Bay Water Association on Long Island. Light winds prevailed for the entire regatta; however, PRO Gill Greenwood was able to run four races out of seven scheduled.

Sailing in his adopted home waters, Kevin Buruchian took the top spot in an at-times wild weekend of racing in Sharon, MA. Saturday saw a 15 MPH Southerly that built to 20-25 with gusts up to 30. With the usual big shifts on a lake, the conditions made for some wild sailing.

The Bruce Goldsmith Memorial Regatta is scheduled for September 15-16, 2012, at Devils Lake Yacht Club in Manitou Beach, Michigan.
