2015 West Regional Regatta

Posted August 17, 2015

Our 2015 West Region Regatta (August 15-16) was a success, accompanied by sunny weather and steady winds in the beautiful Mission Bay in San Diego, California. The first race day was breezy with winds between 12 and 14 knots and white caps throughout. The second day welcomed us with a morning fog hanging above the bay. The fog eventually cleared and we had sunny skies with nine knot winds. The spirits were high, even though a few of us encountered equipment problems while racing on the first day and had to retire. We had a great mix of experienced and new sailors from California, Washington, Texas, and Massachusetts. Camaraderie amongst Sunfish sailors resulted in clean starts and enjoyable sailing for all. In the end, Les Piehl claimed the championship, followed by Tony Collins and Paul Henkart. Winners received one-of-a-kind Sunfish trophies designed and made by Les. Thank you all for sailing with us and special thanks to the Mission Bay Yacht Club for co-hosting this qualifying event.
