2018 ISCA World Championship Update – September 28, 2018

Posted September 28, 2018

Dear ISCA members:

The Carolina Yacht Club is looking forward to hosting the 2018 ISCA Worlds

We ask that you ensure that you call your hotels to confirm your rooms post Hurricane Florence.

At this time NCDOT has opened I-40 and I-95, the two main arteries leading into Wilmington, NC.  In addition, power has been restored to Wrightsville Beach and the surrounding areas.  The club continues to monitor the water quality situation at Wrightsville Beach.

NCDENR is the state authority that monitors water quality on NC beaches.

We encourage sailors to monitor the testing sites on the NCDENR site, so that they can make their own determinations based on test readings from NCDENR.  On this page you can choose 2018, New Hanover County, ALL.  Then click on "View Sampling Data".

Testing locations around the club are site S22E which is sound side just above the club, site S48A sound side just north of Masonboro Inlet, site 22A ocean side at Oceanic Pier and site 22F ocean side at Johnny Mercers Pier.  Swimming advisories can be seen here as they are posted.

A map of NC with all testing sites and advisories can be seen here.  At this time our area is under a Precautionary Advisory.  According to NCDENR, testing will be done this coming Monday and Tuesday, October 1st and 2nd.

Rule 4 of the US Sailing Rules of Racing states, "The responsibility for a boat's decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone."  We want sailors to be aware of the potential for swimming advisories with the most up to date information, so they can decide participation and precautions.
