Florida Regional News – October & November 2018 Update
Posted October 30, 2018
Hallelujah! The weather has finally started to cool off. Summer did not want to leave. Add red tide into the mix of hot humid weather and daily thunderstorms. Summer sailing was not in full force in many parts of Florida’s west coast. Slightly cooler weather makes sailing much more comfortable so it’s time to get out on the water.
Here’s a quick rundown of some of the Sunfish sailing opportunities coming up:
November 3 - Sunfish Saturday happens the first Saturday of every month with races starting at 1 pm. Racing is at Davis Island Yacht Club in Tampa. All levels of racers are welcome. Usually 4-6 short friendly races happen followed by some socializing including snacks and beer and cooling off in the pool. Launching is at the point, just past the club house and pool.
November 3-4 - Florida Regional Championships hosted by the Melbourne Yacht Club. In the Sunfish world, Florida is big enough with plenty of sailors to be our own “region.” Come sail, especially you east coast racers! Here’s your chance to sail on the east coast, rather than the west coast or panhandle. This regatta is a Sunfish world’s qualifier so all entrants must be current members of the Sunfish Class Association. The NOR is available at https://www.sunfishclass.org/documents/nor_2013/2018_FL_Regionals_NOR.pdf
November 24 - Thanksgiving Regatta at Davis Island Yacht Club (DIYC) in Tampa. This is a one-day regatta for adults with one-design starts. Let’s make sure there are enough Sunfish out there for our own start. http://www.regattanetwork.com/event/17717
