Sunfish Saturday September 1
Join Fleet 651 at Davis Island Yacht Club in Tampa for a Labor Day race and picnic afterwards. Racing starts at 1 pm. Bring something to grill and share for post-racing eating and drinking. Launch from the point just past the club house and pool.
Last month eleven sailors showed up and actually got to race. Summer sailing is very challenging in Florida due to the heat and daily thunderstorms. The “A” team was out, resulting in some competitive racing! Joe Blouin finished first; Jeff Linton, second; Ian Heausler, third; Steve Young and Gail Heausler, fourth taking turns sailing and helping with race committee; Bill Wingrove, fifth; Amanda Hus, sixth; Sari Wakefield, seventh; Lynne Randall, eighth; Bonnie Sevier, ninth and Charlie Cushing, tenth.
Labor Day Race - Sarasota Sailing Squadron September 1-2
Unfortunately, the Sarasota Sailing Squadron’s annual Labor Day Regatta has been cancelled due to the effects of red tide and a “no swim” advisory in the area. There has always been a group of Sunfish sailing at this event.
Team Florida will be represented at Austin Yacht Club on Lake Travis by at least seven Florida west coast sailors - Jacki Booker, Jennifer Means, Linda Schwartz and Ursula Olson of Sarasota and Gail Heausler, Abby Hayward and Lynne Randall from Davis Island Yacht Club. Linda and Ursula are planning another epic road trip to the Nationals while the rest of us will be flying there and using loaner boats graciously offered by Austin Yacht Club. Let me know if others are planning to race so we can all have our beautiful Team Florida hats and shirts on to show off to other competitors.
