On Monday afternoon, July 30th, youth sailors from around the US began arriving at the beach in Waukegan, IL to set up their boats and prepare for the upcoming Youth NA’s. Throughout the afternoon old friendships were reestablished and new ones were formed as the sailors got to know each other.

This year the Windycrest Sailing Club, located on Lake Keystone west of Sand Springs and Tulsa, OK will be hosting the championship. WSC has a great reputation for hosting North American, National and ladder events. Also the club has won the St. Petersburg Cup for regatta management.

The Lake Bluff Yacht Club is pleased to welcome the 50th Sunfish North American and Youth Champions to the shores of Lake Michigan between July 30 and August 4th, 2012.

Jeffrey Olsen from Sarasota, Florida entered the final day of the regatta with a small lead. When competitors arrived at the sailing center on the final day, they faced a strong breeze. These are conditions where Olsen thrives. He went out and dominated the final day with consecutive race victories to secure the championship.

Bill Brangiforte continued his dominant form in route to capturing Sunfish International Masters Championship. Brangiforte, the 2010 Sunfish North American Champion, competes all winter as a member of the Barrington Yacht Club Frostbite fleet in Rhode Island.
