Despite Superstorm Sandy scoring a direct hit on Long Beach Island, New Jersey, the Brant Beach Yacht Club is looking forward to hosting the 2013 Sunfish North Americans, Youth NAs and Youth Worlds, as planned.
The Lake Monroe Sailing Association would like to invite everyone to come and sail in the 11th Annual Kettle Cup Regatta.This year we hope to provide more to our local families in need but we need you. We need sailors to come out and participate in the Kettle Cup Regatta which is being held on December 1st and December 2nd.
The 4th annual 2013 Charlotte Harbor Regatta is set for Jan. 31-Feb. 4, 2013, and features the Sunfish and Laser classes, in addition to seven other classes on four race circles. Charlotte Harbor is located on the Gulf Coast of Florida, between Sarasota and Fort Myers.
The Sunfish Class is a proud participating Class in the Pan American Games. The initail interest in having the Class selected for Pan American Games competition was sought by Venezuela as they prepared to host the Games in 1983.
Jeffrey Olsen from Sarasota, Florida entered the final day of the regatta with a small lead. When competitors arrived at the sailing center on the final day, they faced a strong breeze. These are conditions where Olsen thrives. He went out and dominated the final day with consecutive race victories to secure the championship.
Bill Brangiforte and Eric Woodman, both of Massachusetts and the Barrington Frostbite Fleet, took home the top two spots at the 2012 Sunfish International Masters championship held in Sanford Florida on March 16-18. Besting a 57-boat fleet, Brangiforte added the International Masters to his recent wins at the 2010 North Americans, the US Masters and multiple New England Regionals.
It appears that all those Sunday afternoons, freezing our butts off, on the Warren River, is really paying off. Eric Woodman and I just returned from the Sunfish International Masters in Florida, where we finished first and second.
