OVERVIEW
The Santiago (CHI) 2023 Pan Am Games will be held October 25 – November 5, 2023. The Sailing Events will be held in Algarrobo at the Cofradia Nautica del Pacifico. This is approximately 105 km west of Santiago, Chile. More INFO
For this edition of the Games, the Sunfish has been designated the “Regional Dinghy” with separate Women’s and Men’s Divisions. Each division will consist of eight sailors from different countries. Country qualification process CLICK HERE.
COUNTRY QUALIFICATION SYSTEM
Before a sailor can qualify to participate in the Pan Am Games, their country must first qualify per the following protocol:
- The host country will automatically qualify one
- A series of designated Country Qualifying Regattas will be held where sailors from any Pan Am country can compete. See schedule below.
- In these successive regattas, the highest placing female or male sailors from not-yet- qualified countries will earn a country berth to send a sailor to the actual games.

UNITED STATES SUNFISH CLASS ASSOCIATION SAILOR QUALIFYING PROCESS
The US earned a berth for both genders for 2023, a US Pan Am Games Trial regatta will be sailed at Sayville Yacht Club, NY, July 7-9, 2023, to select the one sailor to fill each berth. This Trial will be open to 15 men and 15 women USSCA members who qualified for this event through their performances in the following regattas or via resume application (see later). Active USSCA membership of the relevant year is required for all qualifying events.

USSCA Pan Am Trials Application/Resume Entry due no later than 11:59 p.m. EDT on June 16, 2023.
Three (3) US female sailors and three (3) US male sailors will qualify to sail in the US PAG Trials based on a resume/application via email to Olympic@ussailing.org, due no later than 11:59 p.m. EDT on June 16, 2023.
Resumes will be judged based on sailing achievement in the most recent three years with weighting towards the national-level qualifying events.
If a sailor with an automatic qualification entry is unable to compete in the US Sunfish PAG Trials, the International Selection Committee reserves the right to fill unused spots by the application/resume’ process described above.
US TRIAL PROVISIONS
- Competitors must intend to compete in October 2023 at the Pan American Games in Chile should they win the US Trials.
- Competitors must be US Citizens with a valid passport that does not expire before May 4, 2024 and the ability to travel outside the U.S.
